Toddler Approved Halloween Movies

Who doesn’t love a good Halloween movie? When I first had kids I was so excited to share Halloween with them. The idea of cozying up on the couch with my toddler, some hot chocolate, and a Halloween movie sounded like the next best thing to heaven. However, I quickly realized that finding Halloween movies that wouldn’t totally scar my toddler for life was going to be a bit of a struggle. Nightmare Before Christmas? Hello Oogie Boogie nightmares. Hocus Pocus? As if.

I’ve now experienced Halloween as a toddler mom a handful of times. Therefore, we have put together a toddler friendly collection of 31 Halloween movies and shows to make your Halloween movie night a little less difficult. These movies are sure to leave your toddler itching to throw on their Halloween costume, not quivering in the corner with their eyes clamped shut.

Toddler Approved Not-So-Scary Halloween Movies

It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown

It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown is a classic, and it is our responsibility as parents to indoctrinate our children into the ritual of watching Charlie Brown get a rock every year. This movie is absolutely not too scary for little ones!

The Addams Family

While this one is admittedly questionable on whether or not it is “appropriate” per se, it is not scary for little ones. We have put on different variations of the Addams Family when our girls are up and about. They focus in and out of the movie as they please, but we find it’s a good way to get some Halloween-related film playing in our house without worrying that the girls will be up all night.

Coco

Coco is an endearing film about the Day of the Dead. Though there are skeletons, our kids have not found this one to be too scary!

Curious George: A Halloween Boo Fest

This is a great choice for toddlers! There is nothing even remotely scary about Curious George. We love some wholesome, not so scary Halloween fun!

Mickey’s Tale of Two Witches

Mickey’s Tale of Two Witches has been a hit with my eldest daughter since she was a year old. The year it came out, we were watching this movie well into Christmas time. This was her all-time favorite. There is a scene at the end where Pete turns into a giant Jack O Lantern to try and win the spooky contest that could be scary for some little ones. I fast-forwarded through it myself until my daughter was nearly three years old.

Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie

As you can imagine, this Winnie The Pooh movie is relatively tame. However, definitely stick by your toddler while you watch this one. The tree of terror in particular has been said to give some kids nightmares. My almost four year old was not bothered. I did not try it with my almost two year old yet although I don’t think it would really phase her.

Monster’s Inc.

I was hesitant to try this movie with my three year old. I remembered being a little disturbed by it myself as a kid, although I totally loved it anyway. However, we gave it a try and she loved it! It is still one of her favorite movies to watch. Given it is all about monster’s, Monster’s Inc. makes this list as a great option for toddlers on Halloween. Be warned, the very first scene in the movie was the scariest for my girls. My 3 year old was nervous, but got through it alright and understood that it was all pretend. My one year old, on the other hand, is not allowed to watch that scene.

The Cat in The Hat Knows a Lot About Halloween!

The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About Halloween is about as safe as kids Halloween movies get. You can rest easy with this one, and your kids’ excitement for Halloween is going to burst while watching this movie.

Room on the Broom

We love Room on the Broom because we get to read the story and then watch the movie! Books with movies attached always feel like a bonus. There is a dragon that could be scary for some little ones, but for the most part this movie has our toddler seal of approval!
